sugar is sweet and so are…

The chutney and the cranberry bread traveled fine. I guess they are pretty “bullet proof” and I worried for nothing!

Dinner was ridiculously good, with a brined turkey, 2 kinds of green beans, 2 kinds of potatoes… you get the picture.

Ah, Thanksgiving, when nothing exceeds like excess. Still the best part was being with good friends who invited us to their table, and if you know me then you know that friends are what makes a good meal great.

Well, friends and sugared cranberries… mmmmmm!

I never had these before, and now I can’t wait to get home and try to recreate ’em.

Here’s what I was told to do:
Make a brown sugar simple syrup. Let it cool and soak the cranberries in it overnight.
Drain the cranberries and put them in a bowl with regular granulated sugar and toss.
Spread them on a cookie sheet and let dry for an hour or so. They will be a bit sticky.
Add more granulated sugar and sort of roll them around from time to time until completely dry. This may take several more hours.

Wow. Cranberries are very tart and this adds just enough sweet to make each one a crunchy happy bite. And, you know, they’re full of vitamins and stuff so these are, well, good for you, right? I’ll let you know how it works (and if you try it be sure to let us know, ok?)

So, a fine and happy start to this holiday season in my world, and a new yummy idea! Mmmmmm… enjoy!
